U.S. Women's National Team Advances to Gold-Medal Game with 10-0 Victory Over Switzerland at the 2012 IIHF Women's World Championship

Team USA Generates 80 Shots in the Victory

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Kelli Stack (Brookyln Heights, Ohio) scored twice to lead the U.S. Women's National Team to the gold-medal game of the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship with an 10-0 win over Switzerland here tonight at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

"I'm very impressed with how we finished the game," said Katey Stone, head coach for the U.S. Women's National Team. "Seeing that balanced scoring is something I'm proud of for these players."

Stack tallied back-to-back goals to open the scoring in the game. She struck first at 2:52 and followed suit with a shorthanded goal at 9:09. Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) opened a three-goal lead for Team USA with a one-timer from the slot that beat Switzerland goaltender Florcence Schelling high.

Julie Chu (Fairfield, Conn.) received a pass from Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Id.) and deposited the puck into the back of the net at 2:16 of the second period. Kendall Coyne (Palos Heights, Ill.) connected on a rebound at 9:01 and Gigi Marvin (Warroad, Minn.) tallied a power-play goal at 15:13 to propel Team USA to 6-0 lead after forty minutes of action.

The U.S. opened the third period with three goals in 49 seconds from Megan Bozek (Buffalo Grove, Ill.), Josephine Pucci (Pearl River, N.Y.) and Erika Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass.). Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) rounded out the scoring to secure the win and extend the U.S. Women's National Team overall record to 4-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) in the tournament.

The U.S. will face Canada in the gold-medal game of the IIHF Women's World Championship tomorrow (April 14) at 7 p.m. in Burlington, Vt. 

NOTES: Kelli Stack was named the U.S. Player of the Game after scoring two goals ... Monique Lamoureux-Kolls leads the tournament with 14 points (7-7) ... The U.S. has scored 39 goals through four games of the Women's World Championship ... Julie Chu is serving as Team USA's captain, while Jenny Potter and Kacey Bellamy are alternate captains ... Team USA has won four gold medals and nine silvers in the 13 previous IIHF Women's World Championships. The U.S. has won four of the last five world championships (2005, 2008, 2009, 2011) ... Harvard University's Katey Stone will serve as the head coach of the U.S. Women's National Team. Joining Stone as assistant coaches will be Laura Halldorson and Bobby Jay. Stone and Jay were behind the bench for the U.S. at the 2011 Four Nations Cup ... Robb Stauber will serve as the goaltending coach, while Michael Boyle is the strength and conditioning coach
