GAMEDAY: U.S. To Meet Canada in Four Nations Cup Championship

The U.S. Women’s National Team will play for its fourth consecutive Four Nations Cup championship today when it battles Canada for the tournament’s top prize. Tonight marks the two teams' second meeting at the 2018 Four Nations Cup after the U.S. edged out its northern rival, 2-1, in the preliminary round. The game will take place at 9 p.m. (ET) at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

The U.S. Women’s National Team will play in the finals of the 2018 Four Nations Cup today against Canada at SaskTel Centre. Tonight's game will be streamed live on NHL.com and game updates will be provided by @USAHockey on Twitter. The game will be rebroadcast tomorrow (Sunday) at 3 p.m. ET on NHL Network.

ROAD TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP
The U.S. enters the tournament final with a perfect 3-0-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) record and is looking to keep the streak alive tonight against Canada. First, the U.S. defeated Finland, 5-1, in its opening game of the tournament. Eleven members of Team USA contributed points in the victory, highlighted by Sydney Brodt (North Oaks, Minn.), Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.), Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) and Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho), who each registered two points apiece. Then, the U.S. came out on top of a hard-fought battle against Canada with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and the game-winner from Brodt with 1:38 remaining. In its third and final preliminary round game, the U.S. defeated Sweden, 5-1, with nine different members of Team USA recording points in the victory.

QUEST FOR THE CUP
Tonight will mark the 21st time that the U.S. will meet Canada in the Four Nations Cup championship. The U.S. has won eight of those contests, including the last three (2015, 2016, 2017) by a collective score of 13-6. At the 2017 Four Nations Cup championship, Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) scored twice and was named U.S. Player of the Game in a 5-1 win over Canada. Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho), Kendall Coyne Schofield (Palos Heights, Ill.) and Amanda Kessel (Madison, Wis.) also contributed goals in the victory, and Maddie Rooney (Andover, Minn.) stopped 18 Canadian attempts to help the U.S. secure the victory in Tampa, Florida.

WITH THE TITLE ON THE LINE
The U.S. and Canada have met in the championship of every major international tournament, including the Olympic Winter Games, International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship and Four Nations Cup championship games, dating back to the Sochi 2014 Olympics. The U.S. emerged victorious in seven out of nine of those meetings, and came up just short in overtime in the only two losses.
