Forward Dominique Petrie (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) has been named captain of the 2019 U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team, it was announced tonight by USA Hockey.
In addition, forward Katy Knoll (Amherst, N.Y.) was tabbed as the alternate captain of the squad.
"Both Dominique and Katy are valued members of our women's under-18 program," said Maura Crowell (Mansfield, Mass./University of Minnesota Duluth), head coach of the 2019 U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team. "They have experience succeeding at the highest level and, most importantly, both of them are respected by their teammates and the staff."
Team USA will begin play in the 2019 IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship on Sunday (Jan. 6) in Obihiro, Japan, against Russia. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. local time and 3 a.m. ET.
ABOUT PETRIE
One of nine returnees from last year's gold medal-winning U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team, Petrie is aiming for her third consecutive gold medal after also winning gold at the 2017 IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship. A native of Hermosa Beach, California, Petrie served as an alternate captain in last year's tournament and served as captain for the 2018 Under-18 Women's Select Team at the Under-18 Series vs. Canada. She is currently a freshman skating for Harvard University of ECAC Hockey.
ABOUT KNOLL
Knoll will serve as an alternate captain on a U.S. team for the first time and joins Petrie as two of nine returnees from last year's gold medal-winning U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team. A native of Amherst, New York, Knoll scored two goals in Team USA's gold-medal victory over Sweden at the 2018 IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship. Knoll currently plays for the Toronto Jr. Aeros of the Provincial Women's Hockey League.
NOTES: The IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship will be played for the 12th time in 2019 and will include teams from Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Japan, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States ... Team USA, the four-time reigning world champion, captured gold in each of the first two years of the tournament (2008, 2009) and again in 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. The team has taken home the silver medal in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014 ... Crowell is joined by assistant coaches Josh Sciba (Westland, Mich./Union College) and 2018 Olympic gold medalist Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) ... USA Hockey’s international council, chaired by Gavin Regan (Potsdam, N.Y.), vice president of USA Hockey, has oversight responsibilities for all U.S. national teams.
