The 2019 U.S. Women’s National Team will continue play in the 2019 Rivalry Series tonight (Feb. 14) at 7 p.m. ET in Toronto, Ontario, at Scotiabank Arena, following a hard-fought, 1-0 victory for the U.S. in the opening game.
GAMEDAY: Tonight will mark the second of three meetings between the U.S. and Canada this week as part of the 2019 Rivalry Series, the first event of its kind held between the rival nations. Fans can catch all the action live in the U.S. by tuning into NHL Network, and following along with @USAHockey using #RivalrySeries on Twitter.
LOOKING BACK: In the opening game in London on Tuesday, Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) scored the game-winning goal and Alex Rigsby (Delafield, Wis.) recorded a 33-save shutout to secure a hard-fought, 1-0 victory for Team USA. The U.S. created plenty of scoring chances throughout the game but was only able to break through with 1:28 remaining in the second period. Cameranesi found Savannah Harmon (Downers Grove, Ill.) at the top of the left circle and she fired a shot on goal that was turned away by Canadian goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer. Following the initial save, the rebound bounced out to Knight, who was waiting on the doorstep to put home the rebound. The U.S. would carry the 1-0 lead all the way to the final buzzer to win the Rivalry Series opener.
TAKE FIVE WITH SAVANNAH HARMON: Tuesday night’s game marked the first ever in a USA sweater at any level for Harmon, a 2018 graduate of Clarkson University (ECAC) and member of the Buffalo Beauts in the National Women’s Hockey League. Harmon got in on the action Tuesday, registering an assist on the lone goal, the game-winning goal, that secured Team USA the victory in game one.
