2019 IIHF Girls Global Game

Beginning today (Feb. 15) and concluding Sunday (Feb. 17) the IIHF will host its fourth annual Global Girls Game, a worldwide initiative during which international hockey federations host games in succession around the world. USA Hockey will be part of the action with a Continuous Game running Feb. 15-17 featuring 40 girls/women's games ranging from the 8U age classification through the college ranks and concluding with the U.S. Women's National Team game against Canada on Sunday (Feb. 17).

Girls Skating Party

At noon ET on Saturday (Feb. 16), USA Hockey, in conjunction with the NHL, is hosting a girls skating party at Belfor Training Center immediately following the U.S. practice. USA Hockey and members of the U.S. Women's National Team will welcome current local 8U and 10U girls players to bring a friend to come skate and also watch the U.S. women practice. The event, which will include a group of participants from the Detroit area, is intended to get more girls on the ice, into skates and having fun by exposing them to the rink and giving them the opportunity to interact with members of the U.S. Women's National Team. While the girls skate, parents and guardians of both hockey players and non-hockey players will have the opportunity to hear from a number of USA Hockey representatives to learn more about opportunities within girls hockey among other subjects. Registration is required.

Hockey Week Across America Begins Sunday

Hockey Week Across America was created by USA Hockey in 2008 to engage the hockey community in celebrating the sport of hockey at all levels and exposing the sport to new audiences. The week-long initiative kicks off Sunday (Feb. 17), with highlighted events including the U.S.-Canada women's game in the concluding game of the Rivalry Series at Little Caesars Arena and also the nine-plus hours of coverage on NBC Sports as part of Hockey Day in America. Olympic Gold Anniversary

The U.S. women went to Japan with a singular purpose — to become the first-ever Olympic champion in women’s ice hockey — and in the process they crafted the signature moment of the XVIII Olympic Winter Games.  Pick a glowing phrase or adjective and it has been used to describe the achievement of the 1998 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team and the 20 players who came together to realize a dream. Sunday (Feb. 17) marks the 21st anniversary of that victory, a 3-1 win over Canada at the Big Hat.

Ceremonial Puck Drop

Representatives of TCF Bank, presenting sponsor of the 2019 Rivalry Series Feb. 17 game, will be on hand to drop the ceremonial first puck ahead of the U.S.-Canada series finale. Bill Henak, executive vice president, wholesale banking for TCF Financial Corporation, and Trish Kelly, president of TCF Commercial Banking, are scheduled to drop the puck.

Postgame Autograph Signing

Select members of the U.S. Women’s National Team will appear on the concourse of Little Caesars Arena immediately following the Rivalry Series finale for an autograph signing for the fans in attendance. A ticket to the game is required for access.
