The U.S. National Junior Team registered a 1-6-0 (W-L-T) record and finished in sixth place at the 1988 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Moscow, Soviet Union.
C.J. Young captained Team USA, which included four future U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame members: John LeClair (2009 inductee), Mike Modano (2012 inductee), Jeremy Roenick (2010 inductee) and Mathieu Schneider (2015 inductee). After the tournament, Modano became the second U.S. player ever to be selected first overall in the NHL Entry Draft when he was chosen by the Minnesota North Stars at the 1988 NHL Entry Draft.
