The U.S. National Junior Team registered a 2-5-0 (W-L-T) record for a sixth place finish at the 1984 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Nykoping, Sweden.
Team USA was led by Alan Perry, who became the first U.S. player to win a directorate award when he was named the tournament's best goaltender. Also on the U.S. squad were future U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame inductees Kevin Hatcher (2010 inductee) and Gary Suter (2011 inductee). Suter also went on to claim the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie in the 1985-86 season
