The United States compiled a 1-5-1 (W-L-T) record at the fourth World Under-20 Championship in Bystrica-Zvolen, Czechoslovakia, and first to be sponsored by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The tournament was expanded to eight teams for the first time.
Mike McDougal and Dave Gandini shared the team lead with seven points while Paul Miller tallied a team-high six goals in seven games.
