Team USA, the 2002 Paralympic Winter Games gold medalist, rolled through the competition to reach the 2004 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championship gold-medal game for the first time in tournament play.
After a perfect 3-0-0-0 preliminary-round record, the U.S. shut out host Sweden, 2-0, in the semifinals to advance to the gold-medal game to face Norway, where they fell, 2-1. Despite the loss, the U.S. earned a silver medal -- its first in tournament play -- and finished the tournament with a 4-0-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record, its first winning record in tournament play.
