Game Format

Each game will have three 20-minute periods with two 15-minute intermissions. The rink is roughly 200 feet long by 98 feet wide. This is around ten feet wider than NHL rinks.

Overtime:

For preliminary round games and qualification round games, the overtime will start with a five-minute sudden death period. If no winner is decided in overtime, a three-round shootout will be used. After the three-rounds, any skater can take the shot.

For the quarterfinals, the semifinals and the bronze medal game, the overtime will start with a ten-minute sudden death period. If no winner is decided in overtime, a three-round shootout will be used. After the three-rounds, any skater can take the shot.

For the gold medal game, the overtime will start with a twenty-minute sudden death period. If no winner is decided in overtime, a three-round shootout will be used. After the three-rounds, any skater can take the shot.

Venues

Gangneung Hockey Centre and Kwandong Hockey Centre will host all hockey games at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games. The arenas are located in the Gangneung Coastal Cluster.
