2018 MWC | Jon Gomez, Media Officer

Bio

Jon Gomez, manager of communications for USA Hockey, is serving on the staff of a U.S. Men’s National Team for the first time. Previously, he has served on five medal-winning U.S. squads, including three gold medals, one silver medal and a pair of bronze medals.

Most recently, Gomez was the communications manager for the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team that claimed an unprecedented third-straight gold medal at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. Additionally, last January saw Gomez fulfill communications duties for the U.S. National Junior Team that claimed a bronze medal on home ice at the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Buffalo, N.Y.

The 2018 U.S. National Junior Team marked Gomez’s third-straight stint with the U.S. National Junior Team, including Team USA’s gold medal-winning squad at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto, Canada. He was also part of Team USA’s bronze medal effort at the 2016 event in Helsinki, Finland.

Since 2014-15, Gomez has handled communications duties for the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team in eight major international events, including a gold medal win at the 2015 International Paralympic Committee Sled Hockey World Championship, three World Sled Hockey Challenge titles (2015, 2016 (Jan.), 2017), the 2016 IPC Pan-Pacific Championship in Buffalo, N.Y.,  the 2018 Turin Para Ice Hockey International Tournament in Turin, Italy, and the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games this past March. He was also part of Team USA’s silver medal effort at the 2017 Para Sled Hockey World Championship in Gangneung, South Korea.

Gomez joined USA Hockey’s national office as the manager of communications in December 2014. In addition to his responsibilities with the U.S. National Junior Team and U.S. National Sled Hockey Team, he oversees communication and content efforts for the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game and Hockey Weekend Across America initiative while also leading content initiatives surrounding USA Hockey’s national teams at International Ice Hockey Federation and Olympic/Paralympic-related events.

Previously, Gomez worked within the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency’s TrueSport division after spending time with both USA Team Handball as the media services manager and also with Hill+Knowlton Strategies as an analyst in the global chairman’s office. He also completed an internship with U.S. Paralympics where he contributed to communication efforts during the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

A 2012 graduate of Texas A&M University, Gomez earned his bachelor’s degree in English and threw javelin as a member of Texas A&M’s national championship-winning track and field program.
