2018 WJSS | Alex Dawes, Video Coach

Alex Dawes will serve as the video coordinator for the 2019 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete at the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship. This is the second time Dawes will serve on a U.S. staff after fulfilling the same duty for the gold medal-winning 2016 U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team.

Dawes is in his sixth season with Penn State University and his fourth as a member of the men’s ice hockey team program. Named director of hockey operations in August 2016, Dawes served his first season with the men’s ice hockey team as its assistant coach/director of hockey operations in 2015-16 after spending two seasons in the same role with the Nittany Lions’ women’s ice hockey team.

A 2012 graduate of Utica, he served as assistant coach/director of hockey operations for the Pioneers men’s ice hockey team for four seasons (2009-13). Additionally, Dawes assisted in Utica’s recruiting efforts and the team’s expenditures. During his time at UC, the Pioneers improved every season, going from a 8-14-4 record in 2009-10 to a 21-6-1 record in 2012-13 en route to the NCAA Division III Semifinals. Dawes also played a part in Utica College’s fundraising effort.

Before Utica, Dawes spent his freshman year, 2008-09, at Vermont as the director of hockey operations. That year, the Catamounts reached the NCAA Frozen Four for the first time since 1996 as he created all video breakdowns and was responsible for logistical and physical operations.
