Dr. Phil Johnson is serving as the team physician for a U.S. National Junior Team for the 13th time. Johnson, who most recently served as the team physician for the 2018 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team, has played a role in six medal-winning U.S. National Junior Teams, including three gold medal-winning squads (2010, 2013, 2017) and three bronze medal-winning efforts (2007, 2011, 2016).

In addition, he has also served as a USA Hockey team physician for several Under-17 and Under-18 international competitions since 2000. He was the chief medical officer for the 2009 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship in Fargo, North Dakota, where Team USA won gold. He completed his U.S. Olympic Physician Training in 1999 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista California.

He has served as the team physician for West Fargo High School and Concordia College for the last 20 years as well.

Dr. Johnson graduated from Fargo South High School earning 11 varsity letters, four in hockey as a goaltender. He then attended The University of North Dakota on a football scholarship graduating Magna Cum Lauda with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Therapy in 1980. After that, he pursued and graduated with a Doctorate in Medicine from UND in 1984. He completed his Orthopeadic Surgery Residency at Michigan State University in Kalamazoo, Mich., in 1990. This was followed by a Sport Medicine Fellowship at The University of Western Ontario in 1990-91.

Currently he practices orthopaedic surgery at Orthopaedic and Sport Medicine Specialists of Fargo in Fargo, North Dakota.

He has two daughters and currently resides in Horace, North Dakota.
