2018 WJSS | Jon Gomez, Manager, Communications

Jon Gomez, manager of communications for USA Hockey, is serving on the staff of a U.S. National Junior Team for the fourth consecutive year. In that span, Gomez has served on one gold medal-winning U.S. National Junior Team (2017) and two bronze medal-winning U.S. National Junior Teams (2016, 2018), the first time in history the U.S. has medaled in three-straight International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships.

In addition to his responsibility with the U.S. National Junior Team, Gomez’s international experience includes serving as the primary media contact for the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team. Additionally, last season saw Gomez serve as the media contact for the 2018 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team that claimed the gold medal in an overtime victory over Canada at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. Since taking his role with the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team in December 2014, Gomez has been a part of seven international championship victories, including one gold medal at the 2015 IPC Sled Hockey World Championship, three World Sled Hockey Challenges (2015, 2016 (Jan.), 2017), the 2016 IPC Pan-Pacific Championship, 2018 Turin Para Ice Hockey International Tournament and the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

Gomez joined USA Hockey's national office as the manager of communications in December 2014. In addition to his responsibilities with the U.S. National Junior Team and U.S. National Sled Hockey Team, he oversees communication and content efforts for the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game and Hockey Week Across America initiative while also leading content initiatives surrounding USA Hockey's national teams at International Ice Hockey Federation and Olympic/Paralympic-related events.

Previously, Gomez served as the media services manager for USA Team Handball where he was the primary media contact for the organization’s residency program and national teams, and also with Hill+Knowlton Strategies as an analyst in the global chairman’s office. He also completed an internship with U.S. Paralympics where he contributed to communication efforts during the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

A 2012 graduate of Texas A&M University, Gomez earned his bachelor’s degree in English and threw javelin as a member of Texas A&M’s national championship-winning track and field program.
