2019 WJC | Jon Gomez, Manager, Communications

Jon Gomez, manager of communications for USA Hockey, is serving on the staff of a U.S. National Junior Team for the fourth consecutive year.

During his time with the U.S. National Junior Team, Gomez has served on one gold medal-winning U.S. National Junior Team (2017) and two bronze medal-winning U.S. National Junior Teams (2016, 2018) in a stretch that marks the first time in history the U.S. has medaled in three-straight International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships. 

In addition to his responsibility with the U.S. National Junior Team, Gomez’s international experience includes serving as the primary media contact for the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team that has captured eight major international tournaments and fulfilling media duties for the bronze medal-winning 2018 U.S. Men's National Team. Additionally, last season saw Gomez serve as the media contact for the 2018 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team that claimed the gold medal at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. 

Gomez joined USA Hockey's national office as the manager of communications in December 2014. In addition to his responsibilities with the U.S. National Junior Team and U.S. National Sled Hockey Team, he oversees communication and content efforts for the USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game and Hockey Week Across America initiative, he oversees communication and content efforts for the USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game and Hockey Week Across America initiative. He also led content initiatives surrounding USA Hockey's national teams at International Ice Hockey Federation and Olympic/Paralympic-related events in the 2017-18 season.

Previously, Gomez was as an editor with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency's TrueSport movement after also serving as the media services manager for USA Team Handball where he was the primary media contact for the organization’s residency program and national teams. During his time with USA Team Handball, Gomez was also with Hill+Knowlton Strategies as an analyst in the global chairman’s office. He also completed an internship with U.S. Paralympics where he contributed to communication efforts during the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

A 2012 graduate of Texas A&M University, Gomez earned his bachelor’s degree in English and threw javelin as a member of Texas A&M’s national championship-winning track and field program.
