The U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team captured its second-ever gold medal at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games, becoming the first-ever team to accomplish such a feat. Team USA did not surrender a single goal while posting a perfect 5-0-0-0 record, outscoring its opponents, 19-0.
The U.S. registered 5-0 and 3-0 victories over Paralympic newcomers South Korea and the Czech Republic before topping Japan, 6-0, to close out the preliminary round. As Group A’s top seed, Team USA faced off against Group B’s second-seeded Norway in the semifinals, where the U.S. emerged with another 3-0 win. The semifinal victory avenged Team USA’s semifinal loss to Norway in Torino, Italy, in 2006. Following Japan’s stunning semifinal upset of host Canada, Team USA avoided a similar upset defeat by shutting out Japan, 2-0, in the gold-medal game.
