GAME DAY | U.S. Men's National Team Set to Play Germany

Opening faceoff set for 9:20 a.m. ET live on NHL Network

TAMPERE, Finland – The U.S. Men’s National Team continues play in the 2023 IIHF Men’s World Championship Monday (May 15) against Germany in what is the third of seven preliminary round games in the tournament. Opening faceoff is set for 4:20 p.m. local/9:20 a.m. ET at Nokia Arena. All U.S. games in the world championship can be seen live on NHL Network.

Team USA is currently 2-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) in the tournament, including a 4-1 victory over host country Finland in its opening game on May 12 and a 7-1 victory earlier today (May 14) over Hungary.

The U.S. is looking to start the world championship 3-0-0-0 for the first time since 2018 and 12th time ever.

The U.S. and Germany meet for the 21st time in tournament history. Team USA has a 12-0-1-4-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) advantage, including a four-game series winning streak. In the last meeting between the two teams, the U.S. prevailed by a 6-1 count in the bronze medal game of the 2021 IIHF Men's World Championship behind 33 saves from Cal Petersen and goals from six different players in Riga, Latvia. Germany's last victory in the series came in the preliminary round of the 2017 IIHF Men's Worlds by a 2-1 count on May 5.

Team USA has two of top point-getters in the tournament in Rocco Grimaldi (1-3—4/T2nd) and Alex Tuch (3-0—3/4th). Tuch tops the tournament in plus/minus at +5 and is tied for the tournament lead in goals with three.
