Team USA Training Camp Started Today in Mannheim

MANNHEIM, Germany - Ryan Suter (Madison, Wis./Minnesota Wild/University of Wisconsin) and Dylan Larkin (Waterford, Mich./Detroit Red Wings/University of Michigan) were today named alternate captains of the 2019 U.S. Men’s National Team and join captain Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y./Chicago Blackhawks) as the leadership group for the U.S. entry into the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship that begins for Team USA on Friday (May 10) in Kosice, Slovakia.

The U.S. staged its first practice in preparation for the world championship here this afternoon as it began three days in Mannheim that will finish with the team’s lone pre-tournament game against Germany on Tuesday (May 7) at 7 p.m. local time.

“We had a good practice today with a lot of pace, especially considering the travel over here,” said Jeff Blashill, head coach of the 2019 U.S. Men’s National Team. “It’s fun to see the level of skill we have on this team and we look forward to building toward our ultimate goal of bringing home the gold medal.”

Team USA has medaled in three of the last six world championships, its best medal stretch since the early 1950s.

All U.S. games in the world championship will air live on NHL Network, as well as many others. The complete schedule can be found here.

NOTES: Suter has competed for the U.S. in 12 previous international competitions, which is the most of any player on the U.S. roster, including four times in the world championship (2009, 2007, 2006, 2005). Larkin is playing in his fifth straight world championship and has donned the Team USA uniform six times on the international stage previously ... Kane is serving as captain of the U.S. Men's National Team for the second consecutive year after helping lead the U.S. to a bronze medal a year ago in the world championship. He is playing for Team USA on the international stage for the eighth time ... For complete coverage of the U.S. Men’s National Team, visit teamusa.usahockey.com/2019mensworlds … The official IIHF home of the 2019 IIHF Men’s World Championship is 2019.IIHFWorlds.com.
