USA Hockey Set to Announce Preliminary 2020 U.S. National Junior Team Roster

NHL Network to Unveil Roster on Dec. 9 During NHL Now at 4:00 p.m. ET

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- USA Hockey, in concert with NHL Network, the exclusive home of the IIHF World Junior Championship in the U.S., will announce the preliminary roster for the 2020 U.S. National Junior Team on Monday, Dec. 9.

The roster will be unveiled during NHL Network’s NHL Now at 4:00 p.m. ET. Scott Sandelin (Hibbing, Minn./University of Minnesota Duluth), head coach of the 2020 U.S. National Junior Team, will join NHL Network’s Jackie Redmond, E.J. Hradek and Billy Jaffe to discuss the preliminary roster.

The 2020 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship is set to take place from Dec. 26, 2019-Jan. 5, 2020, in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic. In its 12th year televising the tournament, NHL Network will provide extensive coverage, including live game telecasts plus comprehensive previews, highlights, analysis and interviews within its studio programming and via @NHLNetwork on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

2020 World Juniors

Those selected to the preliminary roster will take part in a training camp in Plymouth, Mich., at USA Hockey Arena on Dec. 16-17 before heading to Ostrava to continue preparations for the tournament. Team USA will compete against Sweden in a pre-tournament matchup Dec. 22 in Cesky Tesin, Czech Republic, with puck drop set for 12 p.m. ET. Team USA’s final pre-tournament game will take place at Havirov Arena in Havirov, Czech Republic, versus Germany on Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. ET.

USA Hockey expects to name the final 23-player roster for the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship by Dec. 24.

NOTES: Media credential application requests are now being accepted for the 2020 U.S. National Junior Team training camp from Dec. 16-17 in Plymouth, Mich., at USA Hockey Arena. Media wishing to attend any part of the Plymouth camp should complete the online credential form by Friday, Dec. 13, at noon ET …. Scott Sandelin is the head coach of Team USA and joined by assistant coaches David Lassonde (Durham, N.H./Dartmouth College), Steve Miller (Sun Prairie, Wis./Ohio State University), Brett Larson (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud State University) and Jerry Keefe (Saugus, Mass./Northeastern University) … John Vanbiesbrouck (Detroit, Mich.), assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey, is the general manager of the 2020 U.S. National Junior Team … The United States enters the tournament having medaled in four consecutive World Junior Championships for the first time in U.S. history after earning gold in 2017, silver in 2019, and bronze in both 2018 and 2016 … Team USA will play its preliminary round games in Ostrava against Group B opponents Canada, Czech Republic, Germany and Russia.
