The U.S. National Sled Team will make its ninth-straight appearance in the Para Hockey Cup championship game when it takes on Canada today at 4:30 p.m. ET at the Paradise Double Ice Complex. The game will be broadcast live on TSN.
The U.S. (4-0-0-0/W-OTW-OTL-L) is coming off an 8-0 victory over the Czech Republic in the semifinals of the 2019 Para Hockey Cup.
THE SERIES
The U.S. is 9-3-1-9 (W-OTW-OTL-L) overall against Canada at the Para Hockey Cup tournament. In the tournament's 12-year history, the two have met in the championship game eight times, including the last four consecutive championship games. Team USA is 4-2-0-2 against Canada in Para Hockey Cup championship games.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The U.S. and Canada met in the third and final game of the preliminary round on Wednesday, Dec. 4 in front of a sold out crowd at the Paradise Double Ice Complex.
Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) scored twice and Noah Grove (Frederick, Md.) had three assists to help the U.S. to a 4-1 victory over Canada tonight in the third and final preliminary round game. Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) made 10 saves in the U.S. net to pick up the win.
FIVE-TIME DEFENDING CHAMPS
The U.S. has a chance to claim its sixth-straight tournament title having won the 2015, 2016 (Jan.), 2016 (Dec.) 2017 and 2018 events. A win would also extend Team USA's tournament-record titles to eight after also claiming titles in 2009 and 2012. The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team skated to perfect 5-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) records the last two-consecutive (2018, 2017) Para Hockey Cup tournaments and an undefeated 4-1-0-0 record the season prior (2016, Dec.).
