Travis Dodson (Deming, N.M.) and Jack Wallace (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) notched third-period goals and Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) recorded 10 saves to help the U.S. National Sled Team defeat Canada 2-0 in the 2020 Sled Series finale tonight at the Woolwich Memorial Centre.
“I'm really proud of the effort we put out there today.” said David Hoff, head coach of the 2019-20 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team. “It was a very physical game. We had to be both physically and mentally tough, but we continued to play our style of hockey and we got the outcome we wanted.”
Team USA dominated on offense in the first period, outshooting Canada 7-0 in the first 15 minutes of play. Brody Roybal (Northlake, Ill.) landed back-to-back shots on goal in the slot halfway through the first, but the game remained scoreless heading into the first intermission.
With just over 10 minutes to play in the second, Kevin McKee (Chicago, Ill.) had a shot at a wide open net with a loose rebound chance, but missed just wide of the net.
Shots on goal were 9-8 in favor of the U.S. through two periods, but both teams were held scoreless. Cash recorded eight saves in the second stanza alone.
Dodson scored the game-winning goal :44 into the third period off a pass from Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.).
With less than two minutes to play in regulation, Wallace added an insurance goal for the U.S. to secure the final at 2-0 with assists from Farmer and Roybal.
