GAME DAY: U.S. Meets Germany In U18 WWC Quarterfinals

Puck drop set for 2:30 p.m. ET on NHL Network

ZUG, Switzerland – The U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team will meet Germany in the quarterfinals at the 2024 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship at Bossard Arena on Thursday (Jan. 11).

Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m. ET) and can be viewed live on NHL Network.


Today's game marks Team USA's quarterfinal game at the 2024 IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship. The U.S. enters the playoff round as the winners of group B following an undefeated preliminary-round performance.


The U.S. holds an all-time 2-0-0-0 record against Germany having last faced them at this tournament in 2012 in the semifinals. In two games, the U.S. has outscored Germany 18-1.

The last time the U.S. faced Germany at the Under-18 Women's World Championship level, current Team USA head scout Haley Skarupa was a member of the team.


Thursday's game marks the first time ever the U.S. will skate in a quarterfinal game at the Under-18 Women's World Championship. Due to the format of the tournament changing, all eight teams participating will play in the quarterfinals.


Goaltender Layla Hemp posted a 28-save shutout in the U.S.' 4-0 victory over Sweden in its final preliminary- round game. It marked Hemp's first international shutout in four career starts at the U18 WWC.


Through three games, Maggie Scannell leads Team USA with six points. The forward has two goals and four assists for six total points. She has recorded at least a point in each of the U.S.' games, including three points (1G, 2A) in the game against Switzerland.
