GAME DAY: Team USA Faces Czechia In Gold Medal Game

U.S. Looks For Ninth U18 WWC Title

ZUG, Switzerland – The U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team will matchup against Czechia in the gold medal game of the 2024 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship at Bossard Arena on Sunday (Jan. 14).

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. local time (1 p.m. ET) and can be streamed live on ESPN+. The game will also be broadcast on tape delay on NHL Network starting at 7 p.m. ET.


Today's game marks the gold medal game of the 2024 IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship. Team USA is set to face Czechia in the game. The U.S. has made the gold medal game 15 of the last 16 times this tournament has been staged.


The U.S. holds a perfect 12-0-0-0 record against Czechia, having beaten them every time they've met at the U18 WWC. In the 12 games, the U.S. has outscored Czechia, 111-6. It marks the first time the U.S. and Czechia have met in the gold medal game.


Team USA last faced Czechia in Under-18 Women's World Championship play on Jan. 18, 2016 in the preliminary round. The U.S. won 6-0, behind goals from five different players, including current U.S. Women's National Team players, in Taylor Heise and Grace Zumwinkle. The two teams also met in pre-tournament competition. Josie St. Martin tallied two goals, before the U.S. fell to Czechia, 4-3 in the shootout.


Team USA holds an 8-6 all-time record in the gold medal game at the Under-18 Women's World Championship, having won the top prize in 2020, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2011, 2009 and 2008. The U.S. has appeared in all but one gold medal game all-time at this tournament.


Forward Josie St. Martin has registered six goals and three assists for nine points in five games this tournament. It marks the fourth-most points scored in the tournament and the most on Team USA.
