U.S. National Sled Team, U.S. Women's Development Sled Team Each Win Opening Game of 2024 Sled Series

MINOT, N.D. – The U.S. National Sled Team skated to a 7-0 victory over Canada and the U.S. Women’s Development Team beat Canada 3-0 here today in the opening games of the 2024 Sled Series at MAYSA Arena.

U.S. National Sled Hockey Team 7 | Canada 0

Jack Wallace (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) had two goals and an assist, including his 100th career point, Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) scored twice and added an assist, and Jen Lee (San Francisco, Calif.) stopped all 11 shots he faced to help the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team to a 7-0 victory over Canada here today at the MAYSA Arena in game one of the 2024 Sled Series. 

“I thought it was a slow start but we got better throughout the game,” said David Hoff (Bottineau, N.D.), head coach of the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team. “It was a fun atmosphere and I hope our momentum carries into Friday’s game.”

After gathering a loose puck in the offensive zone, Farmer cut across the slot and launched a wrist shot into the top corner of the net to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead with 3:33 remaining in the first. Wallace and Brody Roybal (Northlake, Ill.) picked up assists on the play. 

At the 5:12 mark of the middle frame, Farmer picked up his second tally of the game after he forced a turnover in the offensive zone to create a breakaway opportunity, which he buried after stickhandling past Canadian goaltender Adam Kingsmill

With 6:10 to go in the second, Josh Misiewicz (La Grange, Ill.) capitalized on a two-on-one chance with Farmer on the power play to give Team USA a 3-0 lead. 

Wallace went coast-to-coast and rifled a wrister past Kingsmill from left circle to give the U.S. a 4-0 lead with 9:45 to go in the contest. The goal was his 100th career point. 

Josh Pauls (Green Brook, N.J.) added to the tally with 7:23 remaining, and Wallace added his second goal of the game just 41 seconds later to give Team USA a 6-0 advantage. Roybal closed out the scoring with 4:22 remaining to account for the 7-0 final.

Game two of the three-game series is set for Friday (March 15) at 7:00 p.m. ET at the MAYSA Arena. The game will be live streamed free on USAHockeyTV.com.

NOTES: Team USA was 2-5 on the power play, while Canada was 0-2 … The U.S. outshot Canada 27-11 … Lee’s shutout marked his fourth-consecutive start with allowing a goal, dating back to the Para Hockey Cup in December.


U.S. National Sled Hockey Team 3 | Canada 0

Catherine Faherty (Norwell, Mass.). tallied a goal and two assists to help the U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team to a 3-0 victory over Canada here today at the MAYSA Arena in its opening game of the 2024 Sled Series. 

“This was a really great win, it’s a great way to start a three-game series,” said Rose Misiewicz (Duluth, Minn.), head coach of the U.S. Women’s Development Sled Hockey Team. “We came out strong and played three great periods, and that’s what we need to continue doing the next two games.”

Through the first 15 minutes of action, both teams remained locked in a 0-0 stalemate, although the U.S. generated several quality chances throughout the period, putting 12 shots on net.

Team USA began the middle stanza on the power play, and just 1:33 into the period, Kelsey DiClaudio (Plum, Penn.) put the U.S. up 1-0 after she buried a rebound from out-in-front off a shot from Faherty.

With 18 seconds left in the second, Lera Doederlein (San Diego, Calif.) launched a shot from the bottom of the left circle that ricocheted off a Canadian defender and into the back of the net to put Team USA up 2-0.

With 5:56 remaining in the contest, Faherty snapped home a wrister for the final tally of the contest after collecting a feed from Madeleine Gallagher (Palm Bay, Fla.) in the slot.

Game two of the three-game series is set for Friday (March 15) at 3:00 p.m. CT at the MAYSA Arena. The game will be live streamed free on USAHockeyTV.com.

NOTES: Team USA was 1-3 on the power play, while Canada was 0-4 … The U.S. outshot Canada 34-3.
