Sled Forward Brody Roybal Named Player To Watch by IPC

The International Paralympic Committee today named U.S. National Sled Hockey Team member Brody Roybal (Northlake, Ill.) one of five players to watch in the 2016-17 sled hockey season as part of its celebration of 500 days remaining until the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

Entering his fourth season with Team USA, the 18-year-old forward is the U.S. record holder for assists in a single season with 13 and ranks third all-time for points in a season with 20, both of which he set during Team USA's undefeated 2015-16 season. Despite just playing three seasons, Roybal also ranks ninth all-time in U.S. history with 16 career goals and 10th all-time with 37 points in 35 games.

Over the past three season, Roybal has helped Team USA amass a 27-2-1-5 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record that includes claiming five straight major international tournaments, including the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia; the 2015 World Sled Hockey Challenge in Leduc, Alberta; the 2015 IPC Sled Hockey World Championship in Buffalo, New York; the 2016 World Sled Hockey Challenge in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia; and the 2016 IPC Pan-Pacific Championship in Buffalo, New York.

At the 2015 IPC Sled Hockey World Championship in Buffalo, New York, he led Team USA with seven assists and finished second overall in points (2-7--9) while tallying a point in every game.

At the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, Roybal was the youngest U.S. Paralympian at 15 years old. He scored two goals to help the U.S. claim the gold medal with a 1-0 victory over host, Russia.
