The game schedule for the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Championship, which is set for August 25-September 4 in Herning and Frederikshavn, Demark, was announced today by the IIHF.
Team USA will compete in Group A alongside Canada, Finland, Japan and Switzerland in Herning with games played at KVIK Hockey Arena.. Group B, which will play its preliminary round games at Iscenter Nord in Frederikshavn, includes Czechia, Denmark Germany, Hungary and Sweden.
The U.S. Women's National Team opens play with a matchup against Japan on Thursday, August 25 at 9 a.m. ET (3 p.m. local). Next up is Finland again at 9 a.m. ET (3 p.m. local) on Saturday, August 27 and an August 29 game versus Switzerland at 1 p.m. ET (7 p.m. local). Team USA will close out the prelims at 2 p.m. ET (8 p.m. local) on Tuesday, August 30, against rival Canada in a rematch of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games gold medal showdown.
The quarterfinals, which will include all teams from Group A and the top three teams from Group B in a crossover format, are set for Thursday, September 1. The winners of those games will advance to the semifinal round on Saturday, September 3.
The medal round is set for Sunday, September 4, with the bronze medal game set for 9 a.m. ET (3 p.m. local) and the gold medal game scheduled for 1 p.m. (7 p.m. local).
Broadcast information for the tournament will be announced at a later date.
