Roster, Staff Updates for National Junior Evaluation Camp Announced

Grant Potulny will serve as assistant coach for 2022 U.S. National Junior Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Forwards Ryan Leonard (Amherst, Mass.), Aiden Thompson (Fort Collins, Colo.) and Luke Tuch (Baldwinsville, N.Y.); defenseman Jacob Truscott (Fort Gratiot, Mich.); and goaltenders Jacob Fowler (Melbourne, Fla.) and Remington Keopple (Hudson, Wis.) have been added to the 2022 National Junior Evaluation Camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich., that begins Sunday (July 24) and runs through August 3, USA Hockey announced today.

The camp will serve as a final evaluation for the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team which will compete in the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship August 9-20 in Edmonton, Alberta. The final 25-player roster is expected to be announced by August 3. The tournament was originally scheduled for Dec. 26, 2021 - Jan. 5, 2022, in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta, but was canceled due to COVID. Concurrently, the camp will be utilized as an evaluation for the 2023 U.S. National Junior Team which will compete in the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2022 - Jan. 5, 2023, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Moncton, New Brunswick.

POTULNY ASSISTANT COACH OF 2022 U.S. NATIONAL JUNIOR TEAM

Grant Potulny (Grand Forks, N.D.), head coach of the Northern Michigan University men’s ice hockey team, has been named an assistant coach for the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team. He is making his fourth appearance on a U.S. National Junior Team staff, after having served on the bench for both gold medal-winning teams in 2017 and 2013. Potulny also served on the bronze-winning 2018 team. He has amassed a winning record in four of his first five seasons at Northern Michigan, including a 20-16-1 mark last season. A two-time NCAA and WCHA tournament champion during his playing career at the University of Minnesota, Potulny was a three-year captain for the Gophers during his career from 2000-04. Selected in the fifth round (157th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators, the Grand Forks, North Dakota, native played five seasons professionally prior to joining the University of Minnesota coaching staff as an assistant for eight seasons. 

NOTES: Ted Donato, assistant coach for the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team, is not available to participate in the tournament in addition to forward Chaz Lucius and defenseman Scott Morrow … NHL Network will televise all U.S. games of the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship.
