The IIHF announced today the game schedule for the 2023 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship. The tournament, which is set for Tampere, Finland, and Riga, Latvia, will take place May 12-28, 2023.
Team USA will compete in Group A and open the preliminary round against host Finland on May 12 at Nokia Arena in Tampere, which is where the U.S. will play all seven of its preliminary-round games and was the location for nine of Team USA's 10 games during the 2022 IIHF Men's World Championship.
During the preliminary round, the U.S. will also face off with Hungary (May 14), Germany (May 15), Austria (May 17), Denmark (May 20) and France (May 21), before its final game of the prelims against Sweden (May 23).
The top four seeds from each group will advance to the quarterfinal round being held Thursday, May 25. Two of the quarterfinal games will be played in Tampere and two are set for Riga, Latvia, which is hosting Group B for the preliminary round. The winners will advance to play on May 27 in the semifinal round being held in Tampere.
Both the bronze and gold medal games will take place May 28, again at Nokia Arena in Tampere.
