GAME DAY: Team USA Opens Women’s Worlds Competition Against Switzerland

Puck Drop is Set For 7 p.m. ET on NHL Network

UTICA, N.Y. – The U.S. Women’s National Team opens the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship today, with its first preliminary-round game against Switzerland at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York.

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET and can be viewed on NHL Network. 

AGAINST SWITZERLAND

Today's game is the 12th all-time meeting between Team USA and Switzerland at the Women's World Championship. The U.S. holds a perfect, 11-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against the Swiss, having outscored them 99-6 in those 11 games. 

LAST TIME AGAINST SWITZERLAND

The U.S. and Switzerland last met in the second prelim game at the 2023 Women's World Championship, with the U.S. earning a 9-1 victory. Abbey Murphy tallied a goal a record seven seconds into the game to help jumpstart the U.S. to victory. 

OPENING GAME

The U.S. holds an all-time record of 21-0-1-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) in the opening game of the World Championship. The team's lone loss game in 2013 after falling to Canada, 3-2 in a shootout. 

HOME SWEET HOME

For the first time since 2017, Team USA will compete in an IIHF Women's World Championship on home soil. It marks the fifth time overall (2024, 2017, 2012, 2001, 1994) the U.S. has hosted the event. The U.S. has won a medal (one gold, three silvers) all four previous times the WWC was hosted on home soil.
