GAME DAY: Team USA And Canada Meet For Women’s Worlds Gold Medal Game

UTICA, N.Y. – The U.S. Women’s National Team will meet Canada in the gold medal game at the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship today. 

Puck drop on the game is set for 5 p.m. ET and can be viewed live on NHL Network.

TONIGHT'S MATCH UP

Tonight's game marks the gold medal game of the 2024 IIHF Women's World Championship between the U.S. and Canada. Team USA enters the game having won six straight and shutting out Finland, 5-0, in the semifinals.

AGAINST CANADA

Tonight's game is the 36th all-time meeting between the U.S. and Canada with the U.S. holding a slight 13-5-7-10 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record. Team USA has won two straight WWC games against Canada having won the preliminary round game, 1-0, and last year's gold medal game, 6-3. 

IN THE GOLD MEDAL GAME

The U.S. holds 5-5-4-8 (W-OTW-OLT-L) record in all-time Women's World Championship gold medal game appearances. Of the previous 22 gold medal games the U.S. has faced Canada 21 times. Canada holds a 9-12 advantage in those games. 

23RD STRAIGHT GOLD MEDAL GAME APPEARANCE

The U.S. has appeared in 23 straight gold medal games at the IIHF Women's World Championship. They are the only country to make an appearance in every gold medal game staged. The U.S. has won gold 10 times and silver 12 times. 

FRANKEL BREAKS TOURNAMENT SHUTOUT RECORD

Behind a 5-0 victory over Finland, goaltender Aerin Franekl recorded her fourth shutout of the tournament, setting a new single tournament shutout record. The record was previously three shutouts held by Liisa-Maria Sneck (FIN, 1997), Erin Whitten (USA,1997), Kim St. Pierre (CAN, 2005).
