OSTRAVA, Czechia – The U.S. Men’s National Team is back in action after two days off to take on France here tonight in its fourth of seven preliminary round games at the 2024 IIHF Men’s World Championship. Opening faceoff is set for 8:20 p.m. local time/2:20 p.m. ET at OstravarArena. All U.S. games in the world championship can be seen live on NHL Network.

France is 1-0-1-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) through three games, including a 3-1 loss to Kazakhstan (May 11), a 3-2 overtime loss to Latvia (May 12), and, in their most recent game on Tuesday (May 14), a 4-2 victory over Poland.

Like France, the U.S. has four points in the standings through its first three games. Team USA dropped a 5-2 decision to Sweden in its tournament opener on May 10, before rebounding with a 6-1 victory against Germany on May 11. The U.S. rallied from a 4-1 deficit after two periods against Slovakia in its most recent game on Monday (May 13), but ultimately lost by a 5-4 count in overtime.

The U.S. and France have met 12 previous times in the world championship, with Team USA winning all but once, including victories in the last nine contests. The two teams met in last year’s world championship with the U.S. earning a 9-0 victory.

A total of 17 players have registered at least one point in the world championship for Team USA, led by Johnny Gaudreau (1-3—4) and Shane Pinto (1-3—4).

After tonight, the U.S. will return to the ice tomorrow to face Poland, with opening faceoff set for 8:20 p.m. local/2:20 p.m. ET.
