GAME DAY | U.S. To Take on Poland For First Time in More Than 30 Years

OSTRAVA, Czechia – For the first time in more than 30 years, the U.S. Men’s National Teamwill face Poland here tonight in preliminary round play at the 2024 IIHF Men’s World Championship. Opening faceoff is set for 8:20 p.m. local time/2:20 p.m. ET at Ostravar Arena. All U.S. games in the world championship can be seen live on NHL Network.

Poland, which is back in the top-level IIHF Men’s World Championship for the first time in 22 years, is 0-0-1-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L) through four games. They last played on Wednesday and dropped a 4-0 decision to Slovakia.

The U.S. is coming off a 5-0 shutout of France behind two goals and an assist from Matt Boldy, a goal and two assists from Brock Nelson and a goal and an assist from Johnny Gaudreau.

Heading into play tonight, Boldy (3-3—6) and Gaudreau (2-4—6) are Team USA’s top point getters with Brock Nelson (2-3—5) and Shane Pinto (2-3—5) right behind.

CHASING RECORDS

Nelson, who has 18 goals in his world championship career, is just one goal from tying Russell “Buzz” Johnson as the top career American goal scorer in the world championship, while Johnny Gaudreau (12-26—38) is four points shy of equaling Patrick Kane for the most career points by an American player in the world championship. Gaudreau, with 26 assists, is just three short of tying Kane for the most career assists by an American all-time in the world championship.
