Fox opened the scoring 3:46 into the game by taking a pass from Ryan Poehling (Lakeville, Minn.) and firing the puck past Finland’s goaltender Lassi Lehtinen.

Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) nearly doubled the U.S. lead with seven minutes left in the period when Trent Frederic (St. Louis, Mo.) sent him a cross-ice pass that sprung him on a breakaway, but his chance was turned aside.

In the middle period, Finland tallied three unanswered goals before the U.S. connected late to bring the score to 3-2. The scoring began when Robin Salo sent a shot through traffic and past U.S. goaltender Jake Oettinger (Lakeville, Minn.) 4:28 into the period. A close-range goal by Otto Koivula 3:40 later gave Finland a 2-1 lead before Janne Kuokkanen doubled Finland’s lead at the 14:29 mark.

Then, with 1:03 remaining in the stanza, Fox tallied his second of the game when he tucked a shot into the upper left corner.

The U.S. tied the contest with 9:34 to play when Riley Tufte (Ham Lake, Minn.) finished a point-blank attempt off a centering pass by Patrick Harper (New Canaan, Conn.).

Farrance put Team USA ahead for good when he carried the puck end-to-end and slid a breakaway attempt past Lehtinen with 6:10 remaining.

Oettinger finished with 37 saves to earn the victory in goal for the U.S.
