KRASNOYARSK, Russia – Hannah Stone (Killingworth, Conn./Lindenwood University- Belleville) made 56 saves on 57 shots as the U.S. Women’s National University Team (1-0-0-2/W-OTW-OTL-L) fell to Canada, 1-0, in its third game at the 2019 Winter World University Games.
After the score was deadlocked through the first two two periods, a third period interference penalty on the U.S. sent Canada to the power play.
Canada found a way to beat Stone for the first time with 36 seconds remaining in the contest to take the 1-0 lead.
Team USA successfully killed off four penalties in the contest and improved to 12-for-14 in its three preliminary round contests.
The U.S. fired 23 shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net throughout the duration of the game.
NOTES: Team USA recorded 23 shots, while Canada had 57 ... Team USA was 0-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill ...
