Candidates For 2022 U.S. National Junior Team Reduced To 27

Team USA to compete in IIHF World Junior Championship August 9-20

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey reduced its list of candidates for the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team to 27 players tonight at its National Junior Evaluation Camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich. 

The group will practice tomorrow (Aug. 1) and Tuesday (Aug. 2) at USA Hockey Arena before heading to Edmonton, Alberta, on Wednesday (Aug. 3), where it will take part in pre-tournament games on Aug. 5 and 6 before playing in the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship Aug. 9-20.

Among the 27 players are Matthew Knies (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Brock Faber (Maple Grove, Minn.), both who were part of the 2022 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team, and Thomas Bordeleau (Houston, Texas) and Luke Hughes (Canton, Mich.), who played on the 2022 U.S. Men’s National Team in the IIHF Men’s World Championship.

The final 25-player roster is expected to be named by August 7.

“We’re excited about our team,” said John Vanbiesbrouck, general manager of the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team. “It’s been fun to see the talent on the ice this week. It’s a real testament to the continued efforts of so many, including those at the grassroots level of our sport all across the country.”

The USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp began on July 24 and concludes on Tuesday (Aug. 2).

NOTES: Nate Leaman, head coach of the Providence College men’s ice hockey team, is the head coach of the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team … Team USA begins play in the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship on Aug. 9 against Germany.
