The 2019 U.S. Under-18 and Under-22 Women's Select Teams will kick off a pair of three-game series against Canada tonight (Aug. 14) at the Lake Placid Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York. The Under-18 teams will meet first at 4 p.m. ET followed by the Under-22 group at 7 p.m. ET.

U18 GAMEDAY: The Under-18 Series vs. Canada has been held annually since 2007. After the 2018 event, the U.S. and Canada have now met 14 times at the U18 Series and Team USA holds a 14-2-4-16 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against its northern rival.
AT THE HELM: Maura Crowell (Mansfield, Mass.), head women's ice hockey coach at the University of Minnesota Duluth, is serving as head coach for the U.S. Under-18 Women's Select Team alongside assistant coaches Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.), member of the gold medal-winning 2018 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team, Meredith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa), associate head women's ice hockey coach at the College of the Holy Cross, and Josh Sciba (Westland, Mich.), head women's ice hockey coach at Union College. Crowell enters her second season as head coach of the U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team, after having served as associate coach in 2017-18 and assistant coach in 2015-16. Team USA has medaled at every IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship appearance during Crowell's three seasons, bringing home two golds and a silver medal.
AYE AYE, CAPTAIN: Forward Makenna Webster (St. Louis, Mo.) and defenseman Maggie Nicholson (Minnetonka, Minn.) were dubbed the team captains on Tuesday. Both Webster and Nicholson served on the gold medal-winning 2018 U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team at the IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship in Dmitrov, Russia.

LEADING THE WAY: Joel Johnson (White Bear Lake, Minn.), associate head coach for the University of Minnesota women's ice hockey program, is serving as head coach of the U.S. Under-22 Women's Select Team alongside assistant coaches Courtney Kennedy (Woburn, Mass.), associate head women’s ice hockey coach at Boston College, and Katie Lachapelle (Lewiston, Maine), head coach of the women's ice hockey program at the College of the Holy Cross. Johnson enters his second season at the helm of the Under-22 Select Team, after he served as the head coach for the U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team for the five years prior.
FAMILIAR FACES: The 2019 Under-22 Women's Select Team roster includes 10 returning players from the 2018 series roster, including Olympic gold medalist Cayla Barnes (Eastvale, Calif.). This year's roster also includes three members of the U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team that won gold at the 2018 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship in Hannah Bilka (Coppell, Texas), Hadley Hartmetz (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Dominique Petrie (Hermosa Beach, Calif.).
